Do you think it would be weird to write in a diary as a character?

Do you think it would be weird to write in a diary as a character from a book I’ll later write? I’m guessing it would be a great way to get to know a character, but if anyone reads it they’d think I’m nuts. :3

What do you think?

I think that’s a really great idea, just hide the diary under a floor board or something if you’re worried about people finding it.

Do it. I write military fiction. I frequently write operational orders and memos even though they usually don’t appear in my books and I usually end up burning them anyway. It helps me get into the minds of my characters and have a better understanding of how they operate.

No, i actually think its a great idea.
            Very creative.
People will not think your nuts, writing is very personal.
But a diary is for yourself, i would never want anyone reading mine in a million years anyways.

I don’t think it’s weird. Writing a book is hard, and I’m a big fan of the “do whatever works for you” method. As long as you don’t spend so much time on it that it stops you from writing the actual book, go for it.

If you’re worried about people reading the diary and thinking you’re crazy, just put a note at the front to say it’s not real – it’s preparation for a book.
